Corporate Social Responsibility

Each week, Fish on Toast organises either a notable speaker to talk, or run a workshop, about their field of expertise, or; their business experiences.

All of our sessions are intended to help realise your career or entrepreneurial aspirations, as well as, provide an excellent opportunity to mingle with some fascinating individuals.

This week is Zenna Atkins - an acclaimed Social Entrepreneur. Zenna is a social entrepreneur as well as a sought after speaker on topics ranging from corporate social responsibility(CSR) to leadership. She is a regular columnist for The Guardian and won Ernst & Young's Entrepreneur of the Year South Region in 2000.

How businesses can be affected by demographic changes

Jo Causon, from the Chartered Management Institute, comes to Fish on Toast this week. Her talk promises to be an intriguing insight into how the change the changes in a countries demographic can affect businesses across the globe.

Tuesday 18th - Isca Networks: A successful hi-tech start-up
Building 32, Room 3077, The presentation starts at 5.15pm with light refreshments offered at 5.00pm.
Enterprise talk by Tom Spencer, CEO of Isca Networks Ltd.
Ever thought of becoming a CEO of a start-up? Tom Spencer, a recent electronics engineering graduate, left university in 2006 to launch Isca Networks Ltd.
In 2007, Isca started developing its core product, the Interact Platform, and expanded its position in serving a wide range of global customers. For more info see the IEEE Southampton Student's Website.

Wednesday 19th - Mike Southon - Something About the Beatles
Building 38 (Staff Social Center) from 17:30 'til 19:30
One of the world's top business speakers, and a Fellow of The Professional Speakers Association will be talking to us.
Mike is a Visiting Fellow in Innovation and Entrepreneurship at London South Bank University. He has made frequent appearances on television and radio and has a weekly column on entrepreneurship on Saturday in the Financial Times.

The key to successful business start-ups! Presented by Hugh Purser

Time: 2:00pm till 4:00pm with a break for refreshements at 3:00pm

Ever thought of starting-up your own business and living the dream? Hugh Purser, a start-up investor, has spent 18 years dealing with the commercialisation and licensing of innovative technologies. Amongst his various leading roles, he has previously managed a specialist technology start-up venture-capital fund and later became Director of Algometrics (Cayman) Limited, a London based hedge fund. Hugh has also been involved in judging numerous business plan competitions at Cambridge University.

In his two part talk, Hugh will be sharing his experiences on how to start-up a business, particularly with reference to the current economic circumstances. The first part will address the 'What gives entrepreneurs an edge' followed by an exclusive presentation on strategic business plan techniques.

Thursday 27th Nov - Mark Prisk

Enterprise in our economy

This week at Fish on Toast, Mark Prisk, the Shadow Minister of State for Business and Enterprise has agreed to share his experiences in business, as well as The Conservative Party vision for enterprise in the UK.

Mark had an interesting entrepreneurial career before entering politics. After graduation, Mark worked in the property & economic development markets, rising to become a director of a £3m practice. In 1991 he left to form his own strategic marketing and communication consultancy, serving professional firms in both the UK and overseas.

Just to highlight the excitement with which we present Mark, if the Conservative Party were to come into power, he would take Peter Mandelson's place.
